OBJECT OF DISCIPLINE COURSE – 1 DAY COURSE

Our course takes Managers, Heads of Department, HR Practitioners and Supervisors through the often complex procedural aspects related to the application of discipline on the shop floor. Down to earth, practical application course content ensures that on completion of the course, the manager will not only understand the procedural concept of line discipline, but he/she will be confident in its practical application.

Object of Discipline Content

  • The role, application and objective of discipline within the organisation.Corrective versus punitive discipline (skills exercise)
  • Discipline – recommended basic approach/steps. How to deal with employees/problems and how to manage discipline.
    Standard disciplinary procedures – substantive/procedural.
  • Disciplinary skills exercises – utilisation of:
    a. Warning form/s, and 
    b. Disciplinary Enquiry notification – content and application.
  • The role of a grievance/appeal procedure within the organisation.
    General industrial relations open forum.

INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS COURSE – 2 DAY COURSE

The course is a must for all Managers, Heads of Department, HR Practitioners and supervisors. The course covers the current application of labour laws such as the BCEA and the LRA, the role and legal functions of Trade Unions dispute mechanisms, the CCMA and Bargaining Council together, all aspects of procedural and practical application of discipline, grievance and appeal procedures.

IR and HR Training Day 1

  • The role/function of industrial relations at the workplace (practical group exercise).

  • Unfair Labour practice and its impact on employers and employees.

  • South African Labour Law – Role and Impact of the Labour Relations Act, Unfair dismissals and requirement to follow acceptable procedures.

  • Practical skills exercises/case studies related to the definition of an unfair labour practice, and Industrial Court Evaluations (Skills exercises).

  • Substantive/procedural/fairness implications of company practice/policy/ procedure. Potential penalties and compensation payable. This includes discussions on various hot topics including poor performance, disciplinary offences and how to deal with specific problems.

  • Trade Unions, their impact – roles of participants – shop stewards/union officials- management (Skills exercises).

  • Trade union recognition agreement.

IR and HR Training Day 2
